How to find your exact phone model before buying a case

Why the full model name matters

Phone-case openings, button positions, and dimensions are tied to a specific device design. A shared generation number or a similar-looking camera does not prove that two phones use the same case. Words such as Plus, Pro, Ultra, and Fold are part of the model name, not optional details.

Do not select a case from a product photo alone. The model named in the store's variant selector must match the phone you actually have. If a listing combines several devices, choose the specific option before checking its preview and price.

Find the name on your device

iPhone

Open Settings → General → About and read Model Name. Apple also shows a separate Model Number; it is useful if you need to distinguish a device further, but start with the complete Model Name when choosing a case. See Apple's device information guide.

Google Pixel

Open Settings → About phone and look for Model. Google's device identification guide also explains where to find it.

Samsung Galaxy

Open Settings → About phone to find the product or model name. Samsung notes that the exact screen can vary by carrier, software version, and model; its model identification guide covers other ways to check.

Compare the full name with the product option

Read the selected option in the storefront, not just the title or search result. Compare the brand, generation, and suffix word for word. If the option only says a family name, or your exact device is absent, ask the storefront before ordering rather than assuming another variant will fit.

A thirty-second checkout check

• Confirm the model name on the phone and the selected store option match exactly.
• Confirm the case type or material you chose on the live product page.
• Check the final design preview for that model, especially the camera area.
• Read the current processing, shipping, cancellation, and return terms on the store where you will buy.

Model name, model number, and device name are different

The model name is the consumer-facing product identity you usually match to a case selector. A model number is a more specific manufacturer identifier. A device name can be personalized, so a name such as “Alex's phone” tells a seller nothing about case fit.

When a store uses a different naming format, compare the official manufacturer information rather than guessing. Apple provides an iPhone identification reference with model details. For Galaxy and Pixel devices, use the manufacturer references above. The references identify the device; they do not certify a third-party case as compatible.

You do not need to publish a screenshot of the whole About screen. It can contain identifiers unrelated to case selection. If a seller needs clarification, type the model name and, where relevant, the model number; omit serial numbers and IMEI information.

Buying a gift or checking a phone you cannot turn on

For a gift

Ask the recipient for the exact Model Name from settings. If you want to keep the design a surprise, ask only about the device. “The large one” or “the phone bought last year” is not enough to select a fitted accessory. Choose the artwork after the model is settled.

For a phone that is unavailable

Check its original box or purchase record, but make sure the document belongs to the current device. A replacement or upgrade may mean an old receipt is no longer relevant. If the record is ambiguous, wait until the model can be confirmed instead of selecting a similar-looking case.

For two phones in the same household

Make a separate note for each person's full model name before adding items to the cart. After choosing the second case, recheck the first cart line so a changed selector has not been mistaken for an additional item.

Common model-selection questions

Will a case fit if the screen size is the same?

Screen size alone does not establish the overall body shape, button placement, or camera opening. Use the exact supported model named on the case listing.

Can I use the nearest option when my model is missing?

Do not assume so. Ask whether the store has an explicitly compatible option. The fact that another design is available for your phone does not establish availability for this product.

Does the right model guarantee every accessory will work?

No. Fit is only one check. A screen protector, lens cover, charger, grip, or mount may introduce another compatibility requirement. Ask about the exact combination if it matters to your purchase.
